Kaiku Club at Kauppayhtiö

We are arranging a regular Kaiku Club which will take place at Kauppayhttö bar and cafe in Rovaniemi. The club will take place every two weeks and will feature a range of DJs playing many different styles of music as well as occasional live music. We are now looking for experienced and inexperienced DJs who would like to sign up to play at the club nights. The aim is to have two to three DJs per night - a guest, a 'newbie' and a regular.

The music we'll be playing will be broad and accessible, so if you think you fit into that fairly open description and you are interested in joining in, please get in touch (mark.roberts[at]magneetti.org).

UPDATE: OK, so I'm not sure what's going to happen with this... I'm going to be in Tampere and Manchester for much of the next 8 months, so it might not happen.

So come and be my friend :-)

If you listen to and tag Kaiku's music, then its more likely that new people will listen to it. And after that it's more likely that the podcasts will resume! So sign up to last.fm if you haven't already, join the social music revolution (their words, not mine), and help Kaiku along on the road to greatness and world domination.

What happened to Kaiku?

It's been a long time since there was a new podcast. The main reason for this was a lack of music submissions from artists. The secondary reason, which was largely due to the first, was my disillusionment with the whole idea. The third reason was a lack of funding and the considerable unpaid work needed to make the show. The fourth reason was that there weren't enough listeners.

So all in all I stopped making them because it started to be more of a hassle than a pleasure.

But, if I get any comments or suggestions from people interested in the Kaiku podcast continuing in some form or another, I'll be happy to get things moving again.

Kaiku might also return as a series of gigs or mini-festivals at some point in the future. Now I have an artist grant for a year so I'm more willing to spend time on activities like this because I don't have to worry so much about where the money for the mortgage is going to come from!
